AOC, A Future President? Zodiacal Releasing And The Progressions

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has spent much of her political career doing things that established figures in Washington initially considered unlikely. Her defeat of senior Democrat Joe Crowley in 2018 transformed a relatively unknown community organiser into a national political figure almost overnight. Eight years later, the question surrounding her career has become considerably larger: could AOC eventually become President of the United States?

It is no longer an entirely speculative political conversation. During 2026, Ocasio-Cortez has attracted increasing attention as a potential candidate for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. She has undertaken nationally visible political appearances, while supporters regard her as a possible successor to the movement associated with Bernie Sanders. She has also left open the possibility of challenging Chuck Schumer for a New York Senate seat.

In May 2026, speaking with David Axelrod at the University of Chicago, she made an important distinction: her ambition was not primarily about acquiring a particular title, but about changing the country. By August, she had confirmed that she was not ruling out higher office, while emphasising her immediate focus on the midterm elections.

That leaves the political question unresolved. Fortunately, astrology offers a particularly interesting way of approaching the timing. Rather than examining only a few transits and declaring that Jupiter promises victory, we can use two longer-range techniques: zodiacal releasing and secondary progressions.

Both tell a story of development. Neither gives a simple guarantee of the presidency.

First, Is AOC's Birth Chart Reliable?

Ocasio-Cortez was born on 13 October 1989 at 11.50am in the Bronx, New York. Her birth time carries a Rodden A rating in Astro-Databank, with the information traced to a response from her congressional office.

This makes the chart considerably more useful than those of politicians whose birth times are unknown. Zodiacal releasing depends upon the Lots of Fortune and Spirit, both calculated using the Ascendant, Sun and Moon. Without a reasonably dependable birth time, the technique can become unreliable.

Her natal chart contains a Libra Sun at approximately 20 degrees, an Aries Moon at 3 degrees and Sagittarius rising at approximately 15 degrees. Mercury and Mars also occupy Libra, while Venus is in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn in Capricorn.

The contrast between Libra and Aries is particularly interesting. Libra concerns negotiation, coalition and competing relationships. Aries is concerned with initiative, confrontation and independence. Together, they provide a symbolic language for a politician who has had to balance outsider activism with the practical requirements of working inside Congress.

But the question of future leadership requires something more sophisticated than interpreting her Sun sign.

What Is Zodiacal Releasing?

Zodiacal releasing is a Hellenistic timing technique preserved particularly through the work of the second-century astrologer Vettius Valens. It divides a life into successive planetary periods, beginning from one of the calculated Lots.

Releasing from the Lot of Spirit is traditionally used to explore action, vocation, career and the direction a person actively pursues. Releasing from the Lot of Fortune is more concerned with bodily circumstances and experiences that happen to the individual.

Each sign governs a specified length of time according to traditional planetary periods. Larger periods describe substantial chapters of life, while smaller periods reveal how those chapters develop.

The method also identifies peak periods by examining which releasing signs occupy angular positions relative to the Lot of Fortune. Such periods are traditionally associated with heightened activity or prominence, although they do not automatically indicate success.

It is particularly well suited to AOC's career because it allows us to examine whether her remarkable rise belongs to a broader astrological chapter rather than an isolated electoral event.

The Lot Of Spirit Begins In Cancer

Using the recorded birth details and the traditional daytime calculation, AOC's Lot of Spirit falls at approximately 3 degrees Cancer, while the Lot of Fortune lies in late Taurus.

The Lot of Spirit therefore begins its releasing sequence in Cancer. Under the traditional period lengths, this first major chapter lasts approximately 25 years, ending in June 2014.

At that point, the releasing moves into Leo, beginning a new major period that continues until approximately February 2033.

This is the first truly striking finding.

Leo is the fourth sign from Taurus, where her Lot of Fortune falls. It is therefore angular to Fortune, making it a major peak period in the traditional releasing framework.

The timing places much of AOC's adult political career within a period associated with increased prominence and consequential activity. Her 2018 congressional victory occurred only four years into it, and any presidential campaign in 2028 would still fall inside the same larger chapter.

That is not a prediction of victory. A major peak period can describe public prominence, extraordinary demands, controversy or professional transformation. It does, however, suggest that her present political importance belongs to a longer cycle that has not yet concluded.

2018: A Congressional Breakthrough During A Scorpio Sub-Period

Within the larger Leo chapter, the second-level zodiacal releasing moves through shorter periods.

Using the conventional 360-day releasing year, the Scorpio sub-period runs approximately from April 2018 to July 2019.

On 26 June 2018, Ocasio-Cortez defeated Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary for New York's 14th congressional district. The result was one of the most consequential political surprises of that election cycle. She subsequently won the general election in November and entered Congress in January 2019.

Scorpio is opposite Taurus, her Lot of Fortune sign, placing it on another angular relationship to Fortune. The congressional breakthrough therefore occurred when both the major Leo period and the shorter Scorpio period were operating through angular signs.

Astrologically, that is a much more substantial timing testimony than a generic favourable Jupiter transit.

It is also a useful test of the technique. Zodiacal releasing should not be considered persuasive merely because somebody identifies a promising future period. Its value is strengthened when the same framework can be compared with events already known to have occurred.

The 2018 breakthrough provides exactly such a comparison.

What Happens In The 2028 Election Year?

The second-level releasing sequence becomes particularly interesting as we approach 2028.

AOC moves through an Aries sub-period during much of 2026 and the first part of 2027, followed by Taurus from approximately May 2027 until January 2028. A Gemini sub-period then begins and continues through the remainder of 2028.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, a planet associated with communication, argument, information, media and political messaging. For a possible presidential candidate, that symbolism is appropriate, although Gemini is not itself one of the angular peak signs relative to her Taurus Lot of Fortune.

That qualification is important.

Some astrological interpretations might simply observe that she remains inside the major Leo peak period and conclude that 2028 must represent a political triumph. But the smaller timing periods do not reproduce the same angular emphasis seen in her 2018 breakthrough.

This suggests a more nuanced reading. The overall career chapter remains powerful, while the shorter period emphasises communication, movement, competing possibilities and the need to establish a message capable of travelling beyond an existing political base.

That would be relevant whether AOC pursued the presidency, sought a Senate seat or continued building influence inside the House of Representatives.

Different choices can express the same astrological period. Zodiacal releasing describes a symbolic chapter, not a ballot paper with a preselected result.

Secondary Progressions Tell A Different Story

Secondary progressions use the symbolic relationship of one day after birth representing approximately one year of life. The technique allows astrologers to follow the gradual development of the natal horoscope across an entire lifetime.

Where zodiacal releasing divides life into distinct chapters, progressions describe the slower unfolding of the individual.

For AOC, the progressed Sun is particularly interesting.

Her natal Sun begins at approximately 20 degrees Libra. By October 2026, the secondary progressed Sun has advanced to roughly 27 degrees Scorpio. During 2028 it moves towards the final degree of Scorpio, before entering Sagittarius around 2029.

Progressed Sun sign changes are relatively uncommon, occurring only a few times during most lives. Astrologers often interpret them as substantial alterations in the style through which identity, purpose and personal development are expressed.

Scorpio emphasises concentration, strategic awareness and encounters with power. Sagittarius is more expansive, concerned with political philosophy, international horizons and the attempt to communicate a larger vision.

The transition is particularly intriguing for someone considering whether a career built through congressional politics might eventually extend towards national leadership.

Yet the timing deserves precision. The progressed Sun does not actually enter Sagittarius on election day in November 2028. It is approaching that threshold rather than completing it.

That makes the period more suggestive of preparation for a different political identity than proof that the presidency itself must arrive.

The Progressed Moon In Virgo

The secondary progressed Moon moves considerably faster than the progressed Sun, completing its symbolic circuit in roughly 27 years.

During 2026, AOC's progressed Moon moves through Leo. By the latter part of 2027 it enters Virgo, remaining there through the 2028 election year.

Virgo has a very different quality from Leo. Where Leo is concerned with visibility, leadership and occupying the centre of attention, Virgo emphasises detail, administration, practical service and the testing of whether ideas can function in reality.

This makes the progression particularly interesting for a politician whose national appeal has been built partly around ambitious economic and social proposals.

A presidential campaign would inevitably require much more than inspiring speeches. It would demand detailed economic arguments, scrutiny of policy, campaign organisation and the ability to convince voters outside AOC's established constituency that her proposals could be administered nationally.

The progressed Moon in Virgo fits that kind of challenge remarkably well.

It is not the most theatrical symbolism imaginable for a presidential election. It is more concerned with proving competence than attracting applause.

Jupiter Returns To Libra During The 2028 Campaign Cycle

There is another planetary development worth considering. Jupiter travels through Virgo during much of 2027 and enters Libra in 2028.

Libra is central to AOC's natal horoscope. Her Sun, Mercury and Mars occupy the sign, and Jupiter's movement through Libra therefore begins a sequence of transits to those natal planets during the wider 2028 political cycle.

Jupiter is traditionally associated with opportunity, enlargement, confidence and the widening of personal horizons. Its contact with a natal Sun can accompany increased visibility or opportunities to extend influence.

However, the exact dates matter. It would be misleading to suggest that every favourable Jupiter contact occurs precisely on presidential election day.

What can be said is that the 2028–29 period brings Jupiter into the same zodiacal territory as several of AOC's important natal planets, while her progressed Sun simultaneously approaches a sign change.

There is substantial symbolism for enlargement and transition, but not a reliable mechanism for calculating electoral victory.

A President, A Senator Or Something Else?

This is where astrology meets political reality.

Ocasio-Cortez is widely regarded as one of the most recognisable figures on the American left. Her political strengths include an established national audience, fundraising capacity, communication skills and appeal among younger progressive voters.

But a presidential primary would test her ability to build support across a far wider Democratic electorate. Her positions on healthcare, wealth inequality, immigration, foreign policy and the role of government attract devoted supporters and determined critics. She would also face other nationally prominent Democrats, differing regional priorities and the intense scrutiny attached to a White House campaign.

The political reporting of August 2026 makes another complication clear: she has not committed herself to choosing the presidency over a possible Senate campaign.

That uncertainty should remain part of the astrological interpretation.

The zodiacal releasing does not identify a specific office. The progressions do not identify an election result. They describe themes of public activity, political communication, institutional responsibility and the development of a larger identity.

Those themes could be expressed through more than one career path.

Does The Astrology Make AOC A Credible Future Presidential Prospect?

As an astrological question, the answer is that her chart contains a compelling longer-term pattern of public prominence, with a major career peak period continuing through the next presidential election cycle.

The fact that her 2018 breakthrough occurred during an angular Scorpio sub-period strengthens the interest of the zodiacal releasing technique. The approaching progressed Sun change offers another significant developmental marker, while the progressed Moon in Virgo suggests the practical and organisational demands associated with assuming a wider political role.

Yet it would be a mistake to turn those factors into a guaranteed presidential forecast. A major peak period is not equivalent to election victory, and the 2028 Gemini sub-period has a different quality from the highly activated Scorpio period of 2018.

At Wilfred Hazelwood Astrology, this is precisely why techniques such as zodiacal releasing and secondary progressions deserve careful treatment. They are most interesting when they reveal the structure of a life rather than being used to announce a dramatic outcome unsupported by the method.

AOC's chart suggests that the years around 2028 belong to a significant chapter in her political development. The astrology does not settle whether that chapter ends in the White House, the Senate or another form of national leadership.

Perhaps the more revealing question is whether the American left is entering a period in which one of its most prominent figures can translate movement politics into the broader coalition required for national office.

The coming election cycles will decide that question through campaigns, voters and political choices. Zodiacal releasing suggests that the larger chapter is still unfolding.
